The Best Crowd Work Comic
And three secrets to his success...
My Favorite Comic
I’m super jazzed to share this with you comedy fam!
Last week I went on a rant about my favorite comedian Sinbad and ended up creating an entire YouTube video about him.
He is an OG in this game and someone every comedian should learn from. I’ve listed a few must learns about him below to help you level up your comedy game.
He’s always having fun!
If you’re having fun on stage, the audience will have fun watching you. Any clip you see of Sinbad doing stand-up, movies, interviews, etc. he is always smiling and having fun. This energy is contagious and is a next level technique all young comics should develop. For your next show, set the intention to have fun. Right “have fun” on your set and you’ll be surprised with the results.
Undeniable Crowd Work
With everyone chasing crowd work clips, it’s important to learn from the best and Sinbad is no doubt that. His crowd work is more conversational than “jokey.” He creates a genuine connections with the audience which leads to genuine laughter and next level crowd work. Instead of trying to “get laughs” from the audience, his crowd work gives a connection that opens up room for the laughs to happen organically. Next time you’re doing crowd work, try to listen to the audience member instead of thinking how to weave a joke into the mix.
Clean Comedian
In addition to Sinbad being one of the best comics in the game, he does it all by being clean. However when you watch him you don’t even notice that he’s clean until after the show. You are too busy laughing hysterically to notice he’s covering relatable topics suitable for all ages. He’s being authentically funny that also happens to be clean.
Clean comedy is a skill every comedian can learn and use to get more bookings which is why I am doing a Clean Comedy Workshop this month to help comics level up their game.
