She Quit Teaching for Comedy

And this happened...

My Trip to LA

First off, LA was crazy!

If you don’t know I was in LA for the past week filming interviews and the trip did not disappoint!

I will share MUCH more about this trip on tomorrow’s livestream but just wanted to share some nuggets with you Insiders. We’ve been calling this Hot Breath! VIP but Hot Breath! Insiders may be better? Please do reply with your opinion!

Aaaaanyway, let’s get to today’s story of a comedian that quit her job as an award winning teacher to pursue stand up comedy.

In last week’s pod you heard CJ Landry get real real…for real…about sleeping on floors, living in Air BnBs, and stealing food from DoorDash all to survive while chasing his comedy dreams.

His stories reminded me of my early hustle living in a basement studio apartment in the hood of Atlanta living off expired mini-bar food I was getting from my day job at a hotel.

Seriously, my job was refilling mini bars and one week long tour I ate nothing but Cliff Bars for a week. Cliff and I haven’t been friends since.

Well I say all that to say we’re now building on this comedy sacrifice theme with this week’s guest Amy Shanker.

She was an award winning teacher that quit her job for comedy. You’ll hear the full story on our interview, but it was getting to the point she was out all night doing mics then up early teaching.

So wherever you are in your comedy journey just know you are not alone.

This episode adds a lot of perspective to when it’s time to take that leap of faith and the reality of the decision.

If comedy was easy, everyone would do it so embrace the struggle and revel in the fact that’s all part of the comedy hustle.

That’s why we have this community for you to connect, learn, and grow together.

We’re all in this together comedy fam!
